David Timothy Custer

 

DUBLIN- David Timothy Custer, 69, passed away on Saturday evening November 21, 2009 at Riverwalk Village in Noblesville, Indiana. David was born in Richmond,, Indiana on April 16, 1940. He was raised in the Straughn community and graduated from the Straughn High School with the class of 1959. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and following his honorable discharge he re-enlisted into the United States Army from which he retired as a Sergeant First Class on May 31, 1979. He served in Vietnam and was a Drill Sergeant. Among his citations and awards are the Bronze Star Medal w/ V Device and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm. After his discharge he had lived in Dublin, Cambridge City, Dunreith , Greenfield and North Vernon, Indiana. He worked as an electrician for National City Bank in Indianapolis and was a truck driver for Crete Carrier. David was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include 2 sons, Dennis R. (Jenny) Custer of Dayton, OH and David T. (Kim) Custer II of Pendleton; 5 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Kenneth R. Custer of Kansas, Jerry Custer of Madison, OH and Phil Custer of Greenfield; 1 sister, Sharon Bevis of Kingman, AZ; several nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Franklin and Martha Rosella (Wadman) Custer and a sister, Geraldine “Jerry” Melton. Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday November 24 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, 1993 Cumberland Street / Dublin, IN 47335. Cremation will follow.
